1 Day Cardiology Study Course - Saturday 19th May/22nd September 2012

This is a comprehensive 1 day Electrocardiogram interpretation and arrhythmia management course delivered by expert Cardiology consultants with a special interest in cardiac electrophysiology and extensive teaching experience.

We believe that the chosen modules will improve the skills and the confidence in interpreting 12 lead ECG's and managing cardiac emergencies.

This course is aimed at all junior doctors in particular those who will be involved in managing acute unselected medical emergencies. This practical course will sharpen the clinical skills providing more confidence and competence whilst managing cardiac symptoms.

Cardiologists with a special interest in cardiac electrophysiology and rhythm disorder management.

The course includes interactive sessions and workshops on arrhythmias.

Optional post course exam will be held to further evaluate the skills and a certificate of competency will be given to successful candidates.

Dr Derick M Todd - Main Trainer and Lecturer

Current Post: Consultant Cardiologist / Electrophysiologist, Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital

Qualifications: BSc. (Hons); MB. ChB. (Hons); MRCP (UK); MD

 

Dr Todd graduated from The University of Edinburgh in 1991. Following house jobs and SHO jobs in Edinburgh, Dr Todd moved to Leicester to do Specialist Registrar training in Cardiology. During the course of training, Dr Todd spent 2 years in Manchester doing research into Atrial Fibrillation. This was the subject of his MD and most of his publications.

Dr Todd completed his training in Electrophysiology in Canada, before taking up a consultant post in Liverpool in 2003. His current post involves tertiary management of all arrhythmia problems with a focus on ablation and device therapy.

Dr Todd has had an active interest in teaching for the past 6 years. During this time he has conducted weekly ECG teaching sessions. he has taught a lot of junior doctors, how to best get across some of the more difficult ECG issues. Dr Todd has presented at many local and national meetings and feedback has been excellent. Dr Todd has said of himself: 'Despite the fact that I am an EP doc I think I have the skills to teach well!'

 

Dr Mark Hall - Co-Trainer and Lecturer

Current Post: Consultant Cardiologist / Electrophysiologist, Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital

Qualifications: MBBS, MRCP (UK)

 

Dr Mark Hall graduated from Newcastle Medical School MBBS in 1994. He trained in cardiology in Manchester and gained his MD and several publications from AF research at Manchester University. He took up a consultant post in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in 2007. 
 
With his six colleages, Dr Hall provides tertiary electrophysiology care for the Mersey region, North Wales and parts of North West England. He has a particular interest in ablation of ventricular arrhythmias and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).
 
Dr Hall has set up and runs national and European-wide courses in bradycardia pacing, ICD implantation and cardiac electrophysiology. He has lectured on national MRCP courses in cardiology, emergency medicine and ECG interpretation. His straightforward approach to teaching, with liberal use of real life cases and his so-called humourous slides, seems to be appreciated by those attending his courses.
